Unfolding the Heist
On-chain evaluation reveals that the victim unknowingly paved the way in which for the scam on April 30, 2024, by signing an approval for what appeared like a benign transaction. This transaction was cleverly disguised, likely as a part of a fake airdrop or a deceptive website mimicking a trusted crypto project. The user, unaware of the lurking threat, granted the scammer permission to access and eventually drain funds from the wallet.
For over a yr, the wallet activity was minimal, likely giving the user a false sense of security. Then, on July 2, 2025, a major movement of funds began. The user transferred $762,397 in USDC from their MetaMask wallet to a brand new address, 0x6c0eB6, at 8:41 PM UTC.
Merely ten minutes later, one other hefty transaction of $146,154 was comprised of the user’s Kraken account to the identical wallet. These transactions caught the attention of the lurking scammer, who had been biding their time, silently waiting for the fitting moment to strike.
The Final Blow
On August 2, 2025, the scammer executed their plan, siphoning off the whole contents of the wallet. This delayed theft highlights a growing trend amongst scammers: patience and precision. By waiting over a yr, they ensured their actions remained undetected until it was too late.
